Unknown Cultivars
Human curiosity has led to the discovery of hidden treasures, unexplored places and unknown living beings.
Over the centuries, researchers have enriched our knowledge and understanding, especially in the animal and plant worlds, with their discoveries: even today, thanks to their commitment and dedication, new animal species and new, as yet unclassified plants are coming to light.
On our farm, with the collaboration of the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources and thanks to DNA analysis, we have found as many as 14 varieties of plants not included in the current olive database.
This discovery filled us with joy and pride but also invested us with a great responsibility: the care of hitherto unknown olive tree species.
The protection of these varieties can contribute to the enrichment of the plant genetic heritage and safeguard the biodiversity of these native plants.
We therefore embarked on a path to official recognition and registration in the “Regional Register of Autochthonous Genetic Resources” thanks to the collaboration with the Agrifood Technology Park of Umbria.
The Technological Park technicians are collecting all the material required for registration, including the nutritional analysis of the drupe, the nutritional and organoleptic analysis of the oil, and last but not least the results of the plant pathological analyses conducted by the CREA Defence and Certification Research Centre in Rome.
As soon as the process is completed, we will publish the results and share the findings.
